In an awards ceremony hosted by the KwaDukuza Municipality, the Ballito UIP walked away with the Best Community Public Private Partnership award for the unique public-private partnership that exists between the municipality and commercial property owners in Ballito, under the stewardship of Ilembe Chamber of Business.
The Masakhane awards aim to celebrate outstanding groups, individuals and institutions who significantly contribute to culture and society, in line with the values of the municipality.
The Ballito UIP, which was established eight years ago, was honoured for the numerous upliftment programmes it has established under its CSI programme. This includes training informal traders; providing trading infrastructure and carts to informal traders around Ballito; providing beach access mats for disabled beach goers; installing 550m clearvu safety fence on a high traffic main road to protect pedestrians; and continually monitoring water quality on our beaches.
